AC Joint Injuries
An Acromioclavicular joint separation, or AC separation is a frequent injury among physically active individuals. In this injury, the acromion (which arises from the shoulder blade, or scapula) separates from the clavicle (collarbone). This typically is the result of a direct blow to the shoulder. Fortunately, the majority of these injuries can be treated nonsurgically, and it is often worthwhile to wait and see if reasonable function returns without nonsurgical treatment.
